Barbara Ellis
Barbara Ellis is a non-objective abstract painter who lives and works in the Charlotte, NC Metro area. A native of New York City, her colorful paintings that respond to dreams and musings, reflect the Spiritual, the Socio-political; and memory. Surprising forms and movement emanate from her work as she uses the abstract expressionist process to channel emotional states into visual form.
Ellis’ artwork has been shown throughout NC – and during most of 2020, was highlighted in the “NC Women Abstract Painters” show at Greenhill Center for NC Art in Greensboro.
Additional invitational and juried shows, and honors include: Levels of Abstraction at Elder Gallery in Charlotte (Summer 2021); Hart-Witzen “Spring Free for All” (2020); Manhattan Arts International “HerStory” (2019) - a curated art program that rewards artistic excellence in New York, N.Y. www.manhattanarts.com ; Voyage ATL http://voyageatl.com/interview/meet-barbara-ellis/; Charlotte Art League’s “Mammoth Show” (2019); the Elder Gallery for Contemporary Art’s “The Fine Art of ArtPop” (2018); ArtFields 2017; and Charlotte ArtPop (2016) in which Ellis was one of twenty billboard artists.
Currently, Barbara’s work can be viewed at the Elder Gallery for Contemporary Art, Charlotte, NC; Greenhill Center for NC Art, Greensboro, NC; 9.18.9 Studio Gallery, Harrisburg, NC; and Foster’s Framing, Huntersville, NC. One of her works has been given a permanent home at Atrium Health NorthEast hospital in Concord, NC.
Barbara’s continued and unexpected evolution was documented in our December 9, 2020 article, “Quiet Emergence” in the ClearWater e-newsletter, The Splash; written by ClearWater Coordinator, Sarah Gay.
