FEBRUARY 18, 2020 Demo Program: is ANNOUNCED!
SOUTHERN PIEDMONT WOODTURNERS
Invite you to enjoy an evening with
Lan Brady
“HOW TO MAKE A KUKSA ON A LATHE”
Southern Piedmont Woodturners’ guest turner this month will be our own Lan Brady. He will be demonstrating how to make a kuksa on the lathe. Traditionally a hand carved item originating in the Scandinavian country several centuries ago. The form migrated to North America by the French fur trappers during the 18th and 19th centuries. We will let the audience decide if he adds the traditional handle or updated to the loop handle for the modern day coffee drinker.
If time allows we will be adding color to our work, not to hide the grain but to accentuate it with an antique look in mind.
SPW meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at our studio located in Clearwater Art Center and Studios, 223 Crowell Dr., NW, Concord, NC. (corner of Crowell and Kerr St.) A social hour starts at 5:30 and the meeting convenes at 6:30 pm. During our break we will have snacks available, a raffle for wood turning related items and a presentation of our instant gallery of turnings by our members. We will also raffle off our Turner of the Month piece.
