Time is running out! Love seeing bark on the rim of a bowl? If so, it is best to turn that natural edge bowl before the sap starts flowing again. This month Ric Erkes will demonstrate just how to do that. Ric has been turning for over 20 years and has a wealth of knowledge to share. He’ll start with preparing the log, then safely mounting it to get the proper visual balance, bowl gouge usage to get a flowing form, and on to sanding techniques. Ric will finish by showing how he elevates the bowl by adding toes! Please see photos below of Ric’s work.
Social hour at 6:00pm
“Show and Share will be held afterwards, so let us all see what you’ve been turning.”

Kevin Felderhoff will be performing an in house demo on Threading Acorns Made Easy. He was born and raised in Muenster, Texas and earned a BS of Industrial Technology with an emphasis in Construction Management from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. He has lived in Birmingham, Alabama, Gainesville, Texas and currently lives in Brevard, North Carolina where he turns and designs furniture as a hobby. Kevin’s love for building and working with wood began during his high school years. He was fortunate to have an awesome shop teacher who taught him great woodworking techniques. Mastering these techniques led to his building two roll top desks and his love for furniture design began. He continued creating pieces using reclaimed and rescued wood. While in Alabama colleague introduced him to woodturning and Kevin quickly became involved with the Alabama Woodturners. He is currently involved with the Carolina Mountain Woodturners and the Golden Triangle Woodturners in Denton, Texas. Please see the attached photos of his work. Hopefully you can join us in the studio for this live demonstrations. However, if you are not able to join us in person, please refer to the Zoom link information below to join us via Zoom. There will be time for questions and answers. Once you see the photos you will know this is a must see demonstration.
Kevin has published three articles in the AAW Journal:
· A Commemorative Urn – for a Special Friend
· A BARK-EDGED FLYING-WING VASE
· Threading Acorns Made Easy - DEMO
Please bring one or more of your finished pieces for show and share. The more pieces we bring to show, the more interesting and educational this activity is.

From Jim Echter: I will take the mystery out of how to use the skew so it becomes the sensational tool in your arsenal. Utilizing a combination of images, large scale models and actual demonstrations, the use of the skew will be broken down into very understandable chunks of information. The program will overview skew profiles, edge profiles, sharpening procedures, basic cuts, advanced cuts, and learning exercises. Project ideas will be demonstrated that will help you build confidence with using this sensational tool.
The attendees will learn how to effectively use the skew as well as the cause and prevention of the dreaded dig in and screw thread.
